라반 외삼촌에게 혹독히 당하면서
에사우가 동생 야곱에게 당하는 마음의 아픔을 헤아리게 되지 않았을까 하는 생각이 든다.
이렇게 하느님께서는 우리의 모습을 환경을 통해 다듬어 가시는 것 같다.
라반 외삼촌과 함께하는 시간들을 통해서
야곱에게는 자신의 모습이 보였고 형의 마음도 보였으리라
야곱은 진정 미안하고 속죄하는 마음 ,
겸손한 마음으로 다가가지 않았을까?

아버지는 이렇게 우리를 다듬고 만들어 가시고 계신다.
After Jacob deceitfully took Esau’s birthright and blessing,
he ran away in fear of his brother’s wrath,
fleeing to his uncle Laban’s house.
Years passed.
On his way back home,
Jacob prepared to meet Esau again.
To reconcile, he bowed seven times to the ground
as he approached his brother—
like one coming before a king.
We, too, when seeking reconciliation with someone,
need time to reflect—
to truly understand how deeply our selfishness
and wrongdoing may have hurt the other person.
Jacob, who was skilled in deception,
met someone even more cunning—his uncle Laban.
Through those hard years,
he may have come to grasp the pain Esau had endured
because of his betrayal.
In this way,
God often shapes us through people and circumstances.
Through his time with Laban,
Jacob came to see himself more clearly—
and perhaps, also his brother’s heart.
He must have returned not just with fear,
but with a heart full of remorse and humility.
A heart ready to say,
“I’m truly sorry.”
Yes, Jacob likely approached Esau
with sincere repentance and a humble spirit.
And just as Jacob was being shaped,
so are we.
Our Father continues to mold us,
gently—through life, through time, through grace.
