시험 (물과 불로 단련) Through Water and Fire / 화선지, 물감/ 50*40/2012

 

시험 , 아브라함에게 이사악을 제물로 바치라는 하느님의 말씀에

 아브라함은 100살에 얻은 아들 이사악을 제물로 바치기 위해,

 이른 새벽에 길을 떠난다 .

아브라함은 75세에 부르심을 받고 100살까지의 인내의 시간, 

아버지의 다루심의 시간 덕분에 무사히 시험에 통과한다.

나에게도 그 시험의 시간이 왔다.

그 시험의 시간은

 불에 집어 넣었다 물속에 집어 넣었다를 반복하신다.

물 속에 넣어 하느님의 손가락으로 꾹 눌러시는  것 같은 

그래서 숨이 막혀 죽을 것 같은 순간까지, 

그러다가 끄집어 내어 다시 불 속에 넣어서 나의 더러운 욕망들을 태우시는 것 같다.

비상하리라 

나도 아브라함처럼 시험에 통과하리라.

유혹에 빠지지 않으리라.

사랑 받고 싶은 유혹.

인정 받고 싶은 유혹에서 

이 작품은 성경의 깊은 주제, 특히 아브라함의 시험과 믿음을 시각적으로 아주 강렬하게 표현하고 있습니다.
중심에 있는 인물은 마치 물속에 눌려 있는 듯 고통스럽고 혼란스러우며, 동시에 정화되고 있는 과정을 겪고 있습니다.
그 옆엔 불에 태워지는 장면, 아브라함과 이사악의 이야기, 생명의 상징인 물고기, 정결함과 고통의 경계가 섞인 이미지들이 복합적으로 나타나 있어 마치 영혼의 연단을 상징합니다.

 

Meditation: Through Water and Fire

God once tested Abraham,
commanding him to offer up Isaac—
his long-awaited son, born when he was a hundred years old.
Without hesitation, Abraham set out at dawn,
ready to obey.

He had waited twenty-five years
since his first calling at age 75.
That long season of patience,
of being shaped by the Father's hands,
prepared him to endure the trial.

Now, that time of testing has come to me.

This trial feels like being thrown into the fire,
then into the water—
again and again.

At times,
it’s as though God’s very finger presses me down beneath the surface,
until I cannot breathe…
until I feel I might die.

Then, just when I can take no more,
He lifts me out
and casts me into the fire once again—
to burn away every selfish desire within me.

But I will rise.

Like Abraham,
I too will endure the test.
I will not fall to temptation—
not to the desire to be loved,
not to the longing for approval.

I will rise purified.
