A scene I saw at a shopping center in Brazil felt refreshingly new to me.
While the mothers were shopping, the fathers were outside playing with their children. One father held his son in his arms and pointed up at the sky, talking to him about something. Another father was playing with his child at the playground. It was a sight I could hardly have imagined when I was young. The tenderness of these fathers deeply moved my heart.
One little girl was walking across a narrow board, like a small bench. She looked quite afraid. With one hand, she nervously clutched her skirt, and with the other, she held her father’s hand as he walked beside her. She came to a small gap she had to step over — and she was terrified. Even though her father was holding her hand, she was still so afraid.
Watching this, a thought came to me: Isn’t God holding my hand like that father? And yet, even while He is holding on to me, am I still too afraid to take the step forward?
